Golden Tree Hotel Debacle Resolved

Golden Tree Hotel was temporarily closed down by the Belize Tourism Board for having violated the Hotel and Tourists Accommodation Act due to non-payment. Within twenty-four hours, the owners of the recently renovated hotel on Coney Drive, were able to clear its arrears on the mandatory hotel tax payments and was reopened. Director of Marketing and Industry Relations for the B.T.B., Karen Pike, shared what she could with News Five over the weekend.

“For the general public to be aware, all stakeholders are aware when they get a license, they have to follow the rules of the law. The B.T.B. then follows the rules and we implement all the processes in place to make sure that everyone follows. And so we can’t have some not following the rules and then others doing. And so in doing so, the process was followed in terms of what happens, if you are not abiding by all the requirements of having a hotel license in Belize. And it got to that point unfortunately, but everything else—like you said—is resolved and stakeholders should know that the B.T.B. has to follow the rule of the law and we will implement such.”
