Toledo Development Corporation launched
This evening the Toledo Development Corporation was formally launched in Punta Gorda. T.D.C. will co-ordinate activities in the Toledo District to promote increased development of the area. The corporation was a plan formulated by the Environmental and Social Technical Assistance Project and supported by the Government of Belize. According to ESTAP’s Acting Project Manager, Imani Morrison, there are several key areas they will be emphasising.
Imani Morrison, Ag. Project Manager, ESTAP
“A lot has been taking place in the district, but much of it in a piecemeal manner rather than a co-ordinated manner. And so, one of the primary roles of the T.D.C. is co-ordinated the activities taking place in the district.”

“Why is this district specifically targeted?”
Imani Morrison
“Primarily because we all know that the Toledo District has been lagging behind in terms of development, when you compare it to the rest of the country. And it is felt that there needs to be a deliberate strategy to stimulate economy growth in the district. And therefore a means of doing that is through some co-ordinated effort and means of attracting funding directly to the district for whatever priority areas the board of directors will choose to focus on.”
T.D.C. is chaired by Marcial Mes, Minister of Rural Development, while the corporation’s board is made up of a cross section of the community. On Friday’s newscast, we will take a more in depth look at T.D.C and the impact it will have on the Toledo District.
