UDP denounces Intelco contract
In political news, the United Democratic Party has entered the fray over the future of telecommunications in Belize. In a press release issued today, the Opposition strongly denounced the deal made public yesterday between government and Intelco. According to the UDP, the fifteen-year exclusive contract under which Intelco will supply telecom services to the government is “the biggest sweetheart deal in recent memory” and a “thinly disguised fleecing of the Belizean public.” In what amounts to a warning to the new investors, who are currently in the process of installing five thousand computers in Belizean primary schools, the party served notice that if elected into government, they will immediately institute a review of the contract.
