RTA Claims Life of Belize City Man

There was another fatality on the highway, this time in the south. A road traffic accident two days before the New Year claimed the life of forty-seven-year-old Cliff Russell Usher. Usher, a Belize City resident, was driving a grey Grand Cherokee on the Southern Highway when something went wrong, causing him to lose control of the vehicle near the Kanatik Junction. Usher, an employee of C.P.B.L., died on the spot. ASP Alejandro Cowo shared more.

“Dangriga Police visited an area known as the Kanatik Junction which is located between eighteen and nineteen miles on the Southern Highway where upon arrival they observed a vehicle on the roadside extensively damaged. Also, at a distance they found the motionless body of male person identified as Russell Cliff Usher, a forty-seven-year-old Belizean of Crann Street. What police gathered so far is that Mr. Usher was driving from Placencia towards the Southern Highway, towards Dangriga when he overturned several times. As a result, he was flown out of the vehicle and died instantly on the spot.”

“Any way to find out if he may have been under the influence of alcohol?”

“Well that will be determined by the results of the post mortem. You know that samples are collected during the post mortem.”

“He was travelling alone?”

“Yes.”

“So he just careened off the road or suffered a blowout?”

ASP Alejandro Cowo

“Upon inspection of the vehicle, it was extensively damaged. So I cannot tell you there was a blowout, or malfunction in the vehicle or he lost control of the vehicle. It is still under investigation.”
