Rueben Cassasola Charged for Fatally Stabbing Anita Pineda

Thirty-five-year-old Angel Rueben Cassasola has been arraigned for the murder of Anita Pineda, his ex-common-law wife. He was taken to court this morning in San Ignacio and was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until March fifth. Cassasola reportedly stabbed Pineda once to the chest on New Year’s night while she and her mother were at his brother’s house in the Kontiki Area of San Ignacio Town. Pineda was a victim of domestic violence and Cassasola brutalized her in the presence of their three children. Pineda’s family says that the couple separated four months ago, but he would continue to stalk her even though he was in another relationship.  Pineda is the first fatality of domestic abuse since the start of the year.
