Anthony Bennett-Velasquez Committed to Stand Trial for Murder
Also from the courts…Anthony Bennett-Velasquez will have to stand trial for murder of Erbin Garrido, which occurred in May 2018. The thirty-eight-year-old Belize City resident is accused of killing Garrido inside his home and on Friday, during a preliminary inquiry before Senior Magistrate Aretha Ford, Bennett was committed to stand trial. Bennett-Velasquez appeared unrepresented and did not challenge any of the evidence that prosecutor, Sergeant Macedonio Sanchez presented to the court. When asked if he had an alibi, Bennett-Velasquez said he had none. With that, the Senior Magistrate committed him to a murder trial at the April session of the Supreme Court. According to police, on May twenty-ninth, 2018, Garrido was at his home when a gunman fired a single shot to his chest. Bennett-Velasquez surrendered himself to police in the company of his then attorney, Dickie Bradley.
