Ret’d Magistrate succumbs to illness
During today’s official ceremony, members of the legal community observed a minute silence in memory of one of their own. On Friday, Alexander “Andy” Johnson, a former Chief Magistrate, died after battling a series of illnesses. He was fifty-nine years old. After retiring from the courtroom, Johnson became clerk of the National Assembly, but was later contracted back into the judicial system to work as a travelling magistrate, dividing his time between Belize City, Belmopan and Cayo. He retired a second time and took up residence in Belmopan working as a businessman and legal advisor. Johnson entered the political scene briefly in 2000 when he ran as the United Democratic Party’s candidate for mayor. Johnson is predeceased by his first wife Glenda and is survived by his second wife Lorilee Johnson and four children. Andy Johnson, dead at fifty-nine.
