Minister Elrington Says “The poll is not really relevant”

Wilfred Elrington

The media also asked Minister Wilfred Elrington about a recent telephone poll conducted by pollBelize.org regarding the I.C.J. Referendum. According to the poll, there is an increasing number of voters who have chosen to vote ‘no’ on April tenth. But for Minister Elrington, the results of the poll are not relevant. He says that polls do not predict the outcome of an event such as the ICJ referendum.

Wilfred Elrington, Minister of Foreign Affairs

“Every poll that was held between 2000 and now said that I was going to lose my constituency. I win three consecutive times and I will win the fourth. So the poll is not really relevant. My own experience is that I go from house to house and who I deal with are the registered voters because I have to register them.”

“But they know Sedi Elrington but we don’t know what the I.C.J. will deliver.”

“No. No. No. I have talked to my people in Pickstock but one of the first things I did was I went down south, people in Dangriga where I used to live and PG, my first home. I asked the people and more and more people say ‘Yes Mr. Elrington, it’s the common sense thing to do’. The Belizean people are very intelligent. They have always saved this country in moments of crisis from 1798, 1981 up to now. I have absolute fate of the Belizean people. I know they will do the right think. I have no doubt about that.”
