UDP appoints new Senator
The Opposition United Democratic Party has appointed a new Senator as prescribed by the new constitutional amendment. She is Maria Windsor of Benque Viejo. Windsor, a teacher for the past twenty years also has knowledge of journalism and curriculum assessment. She presently teaches English and Spanish at Mount Carmel High School in her hometown. Her political involvement has been as Secretary to the UDP’s Cayo North Executive Committee. The re-appointment of Oscar Ayuso and Marilyn Williams brings to three the number of Senators the opposition now appoints under the Fourth Amendment Act of the Belize Constitution, which calls for a twelve member Senate. The PUP nominated Senators are Barry Bowen, Clara Zetina, Dickie Bradley, Assad Shoman, Eamon Courtenay and Godfrey Smith. The other three appointees by the Chamber, Civil Society and the Council of Churches are yet to be announced.
