A man intent on saving his beloved pet from harm is tonight dead as a result of his efforts. Police reports are that around 7:30 on Friday night, thirty-four year old Godfrey Staine of mile nineteen on the Northern Highway was trying to catch his dog and chased him onto the highway. Unfortunately for Staine, at that same time a Freightliner truck, being driven by twenty-two year old Maurice Garbutt was travelling towards Belize City. Garbutt claims he was unable to stop or swerve and hit Staine head-on. Staine sustained severe head and body injuries and died on the spot. His body was transported to the morgue at the K.H.M.H. where it awaits a post-mortem. Police are questioning Maurice Garbutt but have yet to file any charges against him.
