Channel 5: Bowling champions in media match-up
It’s been a common complaint of both the young and old that there’s nothing to do to entertain yourself in Belize. But with the arrival of the Princess Entertainment Company, we’ve had the return of the big screen and the controversial casino. Now, the company is getting ready to launch it’s latest product, bowling. News 5’s Janelle Chanona and Rick Romero have the story.
Janelle Chanona, Reporting
“Bowling is all about the right ball, the right use of the wrist and of course, the sexy shoes.”
(Janelle gets a strike)
Okay so that was not my first try.
Bowling is now officially the latest entertainment option to hit the Belizean scene. In company tradition, the alley opened quietly on December twenty-third, but has already become a favourite of the public.
Ibriahim Gurel, Manager, Bowling Alley
“We open twenty-third of December and just a soft opening. We’re still training our staff and now we are getting some feedback from the people. The reaction has been very, very good.”
Manager of the Bowling alley, Ibriahim Gurel, says even first timers can feel free to roll through.
Ibriahim Gurel
“The game is very simple, but some of the people do not know it, so we are trying to explain and teach them. So we have a hostess for this reason to explain the game. Anyone who plays for the first time, is coming again, because they’ll like bowling much. The price is five dollars per person per game. So you can play two, ten, four people, six per team. So the price for the promotion is five Belize so everybody can play.”
Janelle Chanona
“And it will stay at that price or go up eventually?”
Ibriahim Gurel
“No, we are not thinking to go up, just keep it this way for a for a long, long time.”
If you do decide to try your hand at the game, you’re bound to run into a few of your friends. We ran into our media competitors and of course, had to do battle to find out which station run things in the alley.
The face of frustration takes on many forms…until you hit a strike. But some consistent shooting from the opposition made sure those came few and far between. (Channel 7’s many gutter balls)
Since we knew victory had been assured, Rick and I made sure we were gracious winners. (Janelle and Rick jumping up and down)
Janelle Chanona
“We win, we win.”
And by the way Channel 7, we’re ready for a re-match anytime, on you of course. Reporting for News 5, I am Janelle Chanona
The grand opening of the bowling alley is slated for January fourth 2002.
