NDACC asks public to drink responsibly
For the next forty-eight hours, it is safe to assume that plenty of people will be celebrating Christmas in the not so traditional way, that is by drinking far too much alcohol. The National Drug Abuse Control Council took the streets today to warn motorists and the general public that if they do plan to drink over the holiday season, to do so responsibly. This morning News 5 caught up with the NDACC team at the one of the busiest locations.

Today’s traffic jam in downtown Belize City provided representatives of the National Drug Abuse Control Council an excellent opportunity to distribute valuable information to motorists that just may save someone’s life over the holiday season.

“NDACC is all about safety and trying to remind all Belizeans that although this is the season for use to be merry, we must also keep safety in mind. And one of the ways for us to do that, is to think carefully about all the repercussions of drinking and make plans in advance. For example, if they are going out and know that they’re going to get plastered, how will they get home, who will take care of them and that kind of things. So it’s just about reminding people to be safe.”
Both drivers and pedestrians were handed a variety of pamphlets that highlighted the risks that come with drinking alcohol. While some people did not mind the reminder, there were some motorists who did not want the information.

“Basically it is just some flyers and basically to give the drivers a little reminder and tips. This is the Christmas season, and people will be boozing up, so it’s just a little reminder. And we have ten facts about alcohol that you could give it to your children as a gift or just post it on the refrigerator, because visitors come and visit your house.”
