C.A.P.U. to march against BTL…again
They promise no rent-a-crowd and more importantly, no political band standing. The Committee for Action on Public Utilities, organisers of a second protest against the Belize Telecommunications Limited, say they intend to come out in numbers and march in the streets until the rates come down.
Magaret Ventura, President, P.S.U.
“Those who did not come out have been calling our union offices and have been condemning the increase in rates and we know that we have wholehearted support. Those who don’t come out insist that they support through boycotting of BTL’s services.”
Janelle Chanona
“How are you handling the possibility that this march against BTL might become politicised?”
Magaret Ventura
“We have invited the general public. Everybody who has a telephone or who accesses any of BTL’s services, must be aggrieved by the increase in rates. And so, it is people from across the political divide, and there is no way we can say to a consumer that you cannot come out. All we’re saying is that C.A.P.U. is a non-political group and we intend to keep it that way.”
The march will once again start at the Constitution Park at 10:00 tomorrow morning through the streets of Belize City and culminate at Battlefield Park. C.A.P.U. is encouraging all members of the public, including students, to protest the new rates implemented by B.T.L.
