Dr. Lorna McKay’s Fate Still in Limbo
The fate of Doctor Lorna McKay as Gwen Liz Principal remains in the hands of the Teaching Services Commission. It has been one year and a half since Doctor McKay was served a letter by the then chairman of the school’s board and Minister Patrick Faber’s ‘right-hand man’, Roosevelt Blades. The letter notified Doctor McKay that she is being placed on administrative leave effective immediately. Doctor McKay, who has denied all financial misappropriation during her tenure, tonight still remains on the bench as the Teaching Services Commission prepares to adjudicate on the matter. As stated, it has been over a year that the TSC has yet to settle the dispute. Earlier in the month Minister of Education, Patrick Faber, explained what the delay was.

“The holdup was that there was an appeal made and it is the appeals body of the Teaching Services Commission, the Appeal Tribunal, is to hear that appeal. The Chairman, the person who presides over the appeal tribunal is Mr. Steve Perera; you have to be an attorney in order to preside over the tribunal. Because Steve once served as a member of the Gwen Liz board it turned out to be a conflict on his part that he would preside. So we have to find another attorney willing to take it one just for that particular case. We have now secured the services of Mr. Godwin Arzu. He has been appointed and so we expect that things would proceed at a normal pace.”
