I.C.J. Referendum Campaign Ongoing in Belmopan
And so, Saldivar says he is making sure that his constituents know the facts of the case so that they can make an informed decision on April tenth. He says that residents in Belmopan have met with the I.C.J. Referendum committee and that there will be subsequent sensitization efforts taking place in his constituency. Today, the Belmopan Area Representative told the media that the he believes all the information is out there and that it is up to Belizeans to go out and access it.
John Saldivar, Minister of National Security
“It has been happening quite casually with my constituents. But I can say that starting next week we will be having our regular, quarterly neighborhood meetings at which the I.C.J. committee will be invited to make presentations. And so the people of Belmopan will also get an opportunity. I believe it was last week there was a meeting also held in Belmopan in which we had an opportunity to hear from our citizenry but I have been in close contact with my people.”

“There’s criticism of the campaign that it is not grassroots enough that it is not reaching the masses and the laymen and women of Belize. What has the experience been for you with your constituents? How well informed have the conversations been?”
John Saldivar
“I believe that the information is out there and it is matter of having an interest to get the information to attend the various forums that are taking place. I don’t believe there is any scarcity of information on the I.C.J. I think it is left to the individual to get it.”
