Belizean books make meaningful holiday gift

More local books, according to Sonia Bainton, retail store supervisor at the Angelus Press. Bainton says most of the gift purchases tell stories of Belizean folklore.

“We have “If the Pin Neva Ben”, “Characters and Caricatures”, “On Heroes, Lizards and Passion”, “Pataki Full”. Then we have the “Creole Glossary”, “Hanaasi Play Trik Pahn Tiger”, “Kenti and ih Pa”. Those are very special.”

And for those people who like to journey into the past, “Thirteen Chapters of a History of Belize,” comes highly recommended, along with a string of biographies, profiling such solid citizens as George Price and Sadie Vernon.

“If you buy a book, this is something that they can have for a long time. They will take care of it. Something else, they will just take it and quick time they will forget about it. But a book, they can read it over and over. You could pass it over to somebody, could lend it to somebody. So I think it is something very good to get, and you gain knowledge from it.”

This Christmas season each and every Belizean can give or get a book, as there’s something for all ages.

“For the children we have rainforest colouring books. We have “Hanaasi Play Trik Pahn Tiger” that they could read and see pictures. Also, we have a comic book. For the cook, we have “Belizeans Favourite Foods” that is health foods. Then we have “What’s Cooking in Belizean Kitchens” and “U Toucan Cook Belize.”
