Bodybuilders take medals in Guatemala

Story Picture
Fresh from their impressive performance in the Central American Games in Guatemala City, today the members of the Belize Amateur Body Building Association held a press conference to show off their medals. All but one member of the team walked away a medallist and they all deserve recognition for their efforts. News 5 was at the M.C.C. Grounds this morning.

Rushiel Bevans, Medallist, Central American Games

“I personally believe I get lucky, so I feel a little disappointed for the guys who did not get to get a gold medal like myself. I had hoped all of us would have gotten one but unfortunately that was not the case and so we have to live with the pain you know.”

Edwin Ramirez, Medallist, Central American Games

“I’ve been satisfied with mine, but what I got to try do is workout harder, get bigger, try bring back a gold maybe next year.”

Guy Neal, Medallist, Central American Games

“This was a feeling that really motivate me a lot and I want to encourage younger guys to come and talk to us about bodybuilding, because there’s a lot of natural talent out there.”

Alfred McKenzie, V.P., Belize Amateur Bodybuilding Assoc.

“If we start at the teenage level, probably from thirteen to eighteen, this would help to enhance younger people to come into the sport and to get the recognition and the glory that these guys are getting, because one of these days these guys will retire.”

The “stats” on the team are as follows: Rushiel Bevans, gold in the light heavy weight category; Guy Neal, Bronze in the Masters; Deon Danderson, silver in middle weight class; Roger Sutherland, silver in the Welterweight division; Lornett Sankey, Bronze in the Female Middle Weight, Edwin Ramirez silver in the cruiser class and Roger Sutherland and Lornett Sankey took silver in the mixed pair competition. Arlene Ramsey represented Belize in the Fitness division. The team would like to send a special thank you to all their supporters, especially their long list of sponsors.
