Jordan Burns to stand trial for the Murder of Carlton Morreira

Jordan Burns

Months ago, eighteen-year old Jordan Akeem Burns, was charged for the murder of thirty-four-year old Carlton Jarrett Moreira which occurred on May twenty-third 2018, through a back street in the Mayflower area also known as Ghost Town.   Moreira’s death was allegedly triggered by boledo winnings when the number twenty-one played. A lone gunman sneaked up and fatally shot him. The gunman allegedly tried to rob another man and managed to escape police twice. But tonight he remains behind bars as he awaits to be tried for murder and also for escape, attempted robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery. This morning Burns appeared before Senior Magistrate, Aretha Ford; his preliminary inquiry ended in a paper committal and he is to stand trial in the April session of the Supreme Court.  Prosecutor, Inspector Hector Rodriguez, submitted a number of statements and exhibits in the form of warrants for the arrest of the accused, notes of interviews, and a statement from Reynold Lamb, the man who Burns allegedly tried to rob.  Burns told the court that he will be calling Carmelita Burns, a resident of Magazine Road, Belize City to testify. Moriera’s murder occurred around one fifteen in the morning when he was walking through an alley with a beer in his hand heading to his house. Someone fired two shots that hit him in his head causing his death. Burns was arrested and charged one week after the murder.
