Safety issues at the intersection King Street and Amara Avenue!

As you heard just now – that accident injured an elderly woman and her great-grandson. The intersection of King Street and Amara Avenue is one of the busiest in the city. At certain times of the day, the traffic, both vehicular and by foot, is considerably heavy because it’s near the bus terminal, the Michael Finnegan Market and St. Ignatius School. Many accidents have happened at that location – and the Garcia family is calling for some measures to be put there. The City Council says they are working on something to alleviate the problem.

 “First of all it was at around the school area so we like to stress out our concern on the Traffic Department to please take precautions measures because we know today it was my nephew and my grandmother and tomorrow it might be someone else. So it is the hands of the authorities now.”

“We would like them to take time out not just on weekend but during the week to be out there for the people, children and especially for the elders at least.”

“An accident had happened about three weeks ago and we had shared at the Traffic Management Committee meeting some of the photos and we sent that over to works to see what is the best solution for the area. We didn’t only want to do speed bumps on the side which has the right-a-way but me and the councillor for works are  looking for other alternative for four way stop signs, stop lights for that area. That is part of a long study right now but we will get to that in a couple of days or so.”
