Today police were back at Trends Guesthouse scouring for clues in the brutal murders of Edward Felix Sr., owner of the establishment and his employee, Anthony Haylock. Felix, only recently returned to Belize after serving twenty-three years in the U.S. Army, had opened his business on Freetown Road. Haylock, who was considered as a quiet man, worked several years for Felix doing errands and other business for the guesthouse. Today, the families of both men say they do not know what happened and why anyone would want the pair dead.
Marlene Arnold, Haylock’s Daughter
“He was very friendly, everybody knew him as a nice person. Nobody knew him as somebody that would get into a fight or argument.”

“The victims’ bodies were found in two separate rooms. However, it is believed that the men were meeting with individuals in one of the units when they were attacked. According to the police, a woman who was staying at the guesthouse, told them that around 4:00 that Sunday morning, all she heard was a scuffle coming from inside one of the rooms.”
According to the police, their investigations have led them to believe that Haylock tried to get away but was caught and stabbed numerous times. Police say there was a blood trail that led from one room to the next, but don’t know if it’s the victim’s blood or if the perpetrator may have been cut during the killing.

“Everybody was shocked because the way we saw him when me and my mom went to the morgue, was nothing nice. He looked very bad, his eyes swollen. It was a shock to the whole family.
Jacqueline Woods
“Does the family know what happened that Saturday night or early Sunday morning?”
Marlene Arnold
“No, nobody knows because he usually stay at the guesthouse with Mr. Felix, so nobody knows that happened.”
Fifty-one year old Edward Felix received a total of nineteen stab wounds to the back, while forty-two year old Anthony Haylock received three hammer blows to the back of his head and a total of sixteen stab wounds. Interestingly, police say they found a twelve-inch blood stained dagger next to Haylock’s body, while the hammer was found next to Felix. Reporting for News 5, Jacqueline Woods.
