Pesero Recounts Terrifying Robbery Experience

Six men are in police detention following a brazen armed robbery at the northern border on Thursday morning but no charges has been levied on them as yet. The group includes the driver of the get-away vehicle and the robbers. Now, five masked and armed robbers held up a group of ‘peseros’, snatching their money bags. It was well planned but the robbers were not aware of heavy police presence in the area. Law enforcement officers were at the border on a separate operation when the robbery took place. The officers sprung into action, shooting at the thieves who attempted to escape in a Marina S.U.V. A police chase ensued which ended near the Mile Four Lagoon and with four of the robbers being shot. The frightening ordeal was captured by security cameras and today one of the victims Wilbert Pol who is a member of the Northern Peseros Cooperative recounted the terrifying experience.

“I just see that when they approached me, I did not see when they came out of the vehicle. I just see when they approached me especially when they attacked me. They told me to raise my hand and then I gave them my purse. After that they gone. It was one injured It was so quick that the incident happened. They were masked and they used camouflage dress.”

“He told me to raise my hands and I gave him my purse because I know he wanted my purse, money.”

“How much did they thief from you sir?”

“About five thousands in different currencies but in overall it was about five thousand Belize.”

“Do you believe that the peseros were being monitored, so that these criminals can execute this plan?”

“I think so. They said we have to be more alert and how to keep in contact with the police and how they can protect us more.”
