District phone calls will also cost more

In related news…last night’s story on BTL’s new rate structure inadvertently
omitted some information that may be of interest to viewers residing outside
of Belize City. That is, beginning December first, local calls placed
from district exchanges will now be metered and billed the same way as
city calls. That is, instead of paying a flat rate of fifteen cents per
call, regardless of duration, customers nation-wide will now be charged
ten cents for every minute they spend on the line…so long-benchers beware.
More information on BTL’s new rates can be found in the centrefold of
the weekend’s newspapers or by watching a half-hour infomercial, which
will air at 7:30 right here on Channel 5. Friday morning the company will
host a press conference to further explain their position.

Meanwhile in Orange Walk, Zhao Ye Li, a businesswoman of San Andres Street, has also reported being robbed at gunpoint. Li says around two o’clock Tuesday afternoon two men came into her shop to order fried chicken, but instead of pulling out a two dollar bill, one of the men pulled out a small handgun. Li handed over the day’s sales, one hundred dollars, and the men ran away. Police have yet to make any arrests in either robbery.
