Mayor Wagner: More Infrastructure and Social Programmes to be Rolled Out
Going into its second year and with a budget reflecting his commitments, Mayor Wagner says that residents can expect more infrastructure works as well as social programmes being rolled out. This, he says, is in line with his council’s manifesto of putting people first.
Bernard Wagner, Belize City Mayor
“A continuation of physical infrastructure; that is important, but residents should also expect more from the social infrastructure part as well. That is the mantra that we came in on, looking after the people. The previous council did a lot of main streets; we want to do more back street. So I believe that they did the main arteries; that was a well-thought out plan—concreting the main arteries—but you don’t have to concrete the remaining streets. Those streets are used on a local level and so therefore the chip and seal model that we have employed has worked well for us.”
