Detention Cell Block under Major Renovation
The disturbing images of the detention cells at the Queen Street Police Station went viral last month. Those images were captured by an interdicted cop Darrel “Tutsi” Usher who was detained at the time. The condition of the cells drew widespread scorn and condemnation. Commissioner of Police Chester Williams had vowed to find a solution to the problem. And tonight, we can report that there is ongoing work happening inside the cells and it will be ready for use in the next week or two. Commissioner Williams says he will save the big reveal for when the upgrades are all in place.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
“I have said before that the cell block was going to be renovated. I am a man of action; when I say I am going to do something, I do it. The cell block renovation is well under way. It should be finished in the next week or week and a half. And whenever it is done, I am going to invite a representative from each media house to spend a night in the cellblock and you must tell me the next morning if it is suitable for the criminals to be in.”
