S.S.B. and C.W.U. Meet to Discuss Issues

On Monday members of the Christian Workers Union, who are employees of the Social Security Board, participated in an organized in-office show of solidarity against the administration of the Board. Employees are not happy with the Board’s plan to convert their pension scheme into a private company. They say that the process is moving too quickly and they have been left in the dark with a lot of unanswered questions. Union members were demanding a meeting which they got on Tuesday. The meeting was observed by Labour Commissioner, Ann Marie Thompson, and had the participated of S.S.B. C.E.O., Doctor Colin Young and CWU President Evan ‘Mose’ Hyde. Hyde says that the union is hopeful that the concerns will be address expeditiously.

“We just had a conversation with the Labor Commissioner. She asked if she could sit with the union and with management from SSB and we sat. We had a healthy conversation, honest conversation and we have agreed that we will begin a conversation between us on Friday morning. I hope that we are able to work out our way through the outstanding issues and resolve them and do so expeditiously. That is what our team wants. They want to work on it. They want to get through positively and pivot into a win-win situation for the Social Security Board as well for our members. So we are going to basically go in there with that hopefulness and that commitment to achieving those results. I can’t speak to what will happen. I can just say that we are extremely hopeful.”
