Activities for families that stay at home because of flu scare…
It’s a three-day Labour Day weekend and large public gatherings such as the Morgan Heritage Concert have been cancelled because of the threat of the H1N1 or Swine Flu. Some people will venture to less populated areas of the country but many will prefer to stay at home. News Five’s Jose Sanchez went to a couple stores to find out what home entertainment they offer to please the entire family.
Glenford Moreira, Manager, RON G. Movies
“Like how it’s a holiday, during the week—the Friday its good to come pick up movies like how no showing is going on especially the virus that is around right now– the swine, its good to stay in, the family. I rather get movies to the public and also prevent the virus right now. So, it’s good to stop by, pick up movies, we also got buy four get one free.”
Jose Sanchez
“What do you have for the family?”
Glenford Moreira
“The family movies would probably be like fireproof, especially, we have Monster’s Ink, Caroline which will especially attract the kids. We have Race to Witch Mountain, Bedtime Stories, couple movies especially the number one movie right now everybody is going for is obsessed with Beyonce.”
Jose Sanchez
“So, that’s the adult movies?”
Glenford Moreira
“The adult movies would be more like Slum Dog Millionaires; I guess you already watched that. We have Secret Life of Bees, you have—like I said Obsessed is more an adult movie—a grown up movie. You have Cranked, Crossing Over, Fighting with Terrence Howard, all new movies.”
Jose Sanchez
“Do you think it’s advisable for parents to have toys at home for this long weekend where all public gatherings are off?”
Claire Walker, shopper
“Absolutely, absolutely. Because you don’t want your kids going outside interacting with other people or other kids that may have an infection or maybe be coughing as well. So limited their access to people that may be possibly be infected and at the same time some good quality home time with your child.”
Shaundra Ashby, Salesperson, Mirab
“For the kids for entertainment at home, we have the Leap Frog, which I would recommend for them. It is very educational and it can build their mind and help to focus still on school. And it can teach them other things like mathematics and stuff, you know, that kids are graded high in, they can also learn and build their minds with the Leap Frog.”
Jose Sanchez
“Ok and they’re not really interest into education and just general entertainment, what else do you have?”
Shaundra Ashby
“We also have Checkers, we have bingo—they are not too in prices. We also have the puzzles and some of the babies, we have stuff for them also like crayons and colouring books, we recommend those also for the kids.”

“And for the adults when the kids are asleep?”
Shaundra Ashby
“For the adults when the kids are asleep, for them not to be out there at the casino we have the six in one portable casino player. It’s a nice game and they can enjoy that home. Also we have some other stuff like Pictionary for them and games like Law and Order, a detective game.”
