Looking at the Mess at Vital Stats

Attorney General Michael Peyrefitte cried foul a few weeks ago when footage of a well-known U.D.P. operative behind a desk at the Vital Statistics Department surfaced on Vibes Media.  The opposition ran an ad depicting questionable practices undertaken at that government office. AG Peyrefitte described it as a misrepresentation of changes that have since been implemented to clean up the department.  Today, we asked Opposition Leader John Briceño for a comment on the situation at Vital Stats.  Here’s his response.

“Are you shocked that the AG would say such thing?  Of course, he has been spinning like a top because wherever we look at the issues of… Let’s be kind.  Of course when it comes to issues with the Vital Statistics, he knows that they have messed up big time.  We have hundreds of citizens everyday going to Vital Statistics to try to get their birth papers everyday and they can’t get it.  Can you imagine a poor Belizean from the Toledo District getting on a bus by four o’clock in the morning to try to get to Belize City by nine o’clock and then have to stand in the sun going there every day?”
