Alexander Ruiz charged for William Garcia’s death in motorcycle accident; no charges yet for murder of Luis Cabrera

Alexander Ruiz

Tonight police say that Alexander Ruiz is out on bail for the accident that claimed William Garcia’s life last Wednesday night – but Ruiz is also the alleged killer who took the life of eighteen-year-old Luis Cabrera Junior. This afternoon police told reporters that he has not yet been charged in connection with the murder as that investigation is still underway. Cabrera was stabbed to death while at a bar in Punta Gorda. At the time it appeared that the killing was motivated by jealousy over a female who works at Dahanny’s Bar. After Ruiz reportedly stabbed Cabrera, he and a friend from Trio Village fled on a motorcycle and shortly after they crashed on the San Antonio Road. Ruiz was driving the cycle and suffered massive injuries, while his passenger William Garcia died as a result of the accident. Here’s what police shared today.

ACP Joseph Myvett, Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch

ACP Joseph Myvett

“Alexander Ruiz has since been charged for manslaughter by negligence, causing death by carless conduct, driving without due care and attention. However, no murder charges have been brought against him as yet whilst the investigation continues.”

Reporter

“Is there any difficulty that is being presented at this time to the investigators as to why no murder charges have been brought yet?”

ACP Joseph Myvett

“I will not go into the details as to why that hasn’t been done as yet. “

Reporter

“Is there any reason as to why he has been released?”

ACP Joseph Myvett

“He is on bail. He was taken before the court today.”
