How Did Crew of Grounded Vessel Skip Town?

According to Maheia, the proximity of the vessel to the F.O.B. at Hunting Caye makes it near impossible for coastguard personnel stationed on the island not to see it in the near distance.  Maheia also says that there is another vessel grounded on the reef in the same area but it appears to have been there for much longer.

“Well there is no way in which the coast guard could have missed that, it’s within striking distance of Hunting Caye.  It’s not like it’s out of sight, like I said, it’s less than a mile from Hunting Caye.  We did see a coast guard boat in the area.  You know, when we were leaving the area there was a coast guard boat heading to that area, I don’t know if they were going there or not.  But, I mean again, this boat crashed there on Thursday and so far I have heard no reports of it and the owners, from the people we spoke to in the area, fishermen, that these guys just skipped town.  How could they have skipped town? It’s just beyond me.”
