Moreno’s citizenship revoked
Late tonight the Ministry of Home Affairs, Police, Prisons and Immigration has informed the media that the citizenship granted to Jorge Carlos Moreno, currently charged in the largest drug bust in the country’s history, has been revoked. The Belize Economic Citizenship Programme says that Moreno’s application was vetted by the scrutinising committee and recommended for approval. However, recent checks have now shown that the information Moreno provided is not factual and he will be relieved of his recently acquired citizenship certificate. But this case highlights the fact that whatever “scrutinising” methods are currently being employed by the programme need to be scrutinised themselves.
