Midnight shooting injures S.P. man

In crime news, a shooting incident on Wednesday in San Pedro has left a man injured. According to police, twenty year old Victor Garnett, a fisherman of the San Juan area of the island told police that around midnight someone knocked on his door. He decided not to answer given the late hour, but within minutes two men kicked the door down. One of the them, armed with a pump action shotgun fired a shot at Garnett, injuring him in his right arm. The men then ran from the house to a nearby dock where a “getaway” boat was waiting and disappeared into the night. Police have not made any arrests. The only description of the men provided is that one is of fair complexion and that is the other is dark.

Police are also investigating a burglary at a Belize City hotspot. If you don’t hear your favourite song at the Eden Nightclub tonight, don’t worry, the DJ isn’t “dissing” you. On Wednesday, thieves broke into the Belize City party venue and carted away a number of electronic equipment, liquor and CDs. According to Cecil Arnold, the club’s manager, the incident took place sometime between six on Tuesday night and nine a.m. Wednesday. The list of missing equipment includes a Sony stereo system, a CD burner and recorder and four Bose speakers. The total value of the heist is approximately seven thousand dollars. Police are still investigating, but the nightclub’s owners are also offering a reward to anyone providing information leading to the recovery of the stolen goods.
