It was at around seven-thirty on Friday night that twenty-six-year-old Carlos Larios, a Belize City resident, had arrived at his destination on the Hummingbird Highway. The James bus that Larios was traveling on stopped between miles twenty-five and twenty-six, allowing Larios to disembark. He had arrived at a relative’s home where he had plans to stay for a few days but Larios never fully made it across the highway because he was knocked down and killed.
Yolanda Larios, Cousin of Deceased
“He was already on this side of the road halfway when the car was coming. Actually, he came down signing out of the James bus. He was a good person. He was always a cooperating, he was a nice person. It was something really sad because he was like a brother to me.”
Larios died on the spot. He was hit by grey Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck which was being driven at the time by Heinrich Froese.

“Do you know if the driver of that car was speeding?”
Yolanda Larios
“Yes, actually he was coming really hot fast because if he actually sees my cousin, he could have brakes but he didn’t.”
Hipolito Novelo
“There isn’t any lighting in the area?”
Yolanda Larios
“No, but there are signs that the road has construction. There is one by the curve and there is one by where he is.”
Police say that Froese was issued a Notice of Intended Prosecution.
ACP Joseph Myvett, Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch
“As a result, Mr. Froese was detained, samples were taken from him. He was served with a notice of intended prosecution pending the outcome of the investigation. It is evident from the scene that the pedestrian was knocked whilst almost in the middle of the road, crossing.”
