Sedi Calls Out Kareem over I.C.J. Position

Wilfred ‘Sedi’ Elrington

In responding to claims made by the Opposition, Foreign Minister Elrington called out parliamentarian Kareem Musa whose father, himself a former Foreign Minister, is in favour of Belize taking the Guatemala territorial dispute to the I.C.J. for resolution.

Wilfred ‘Sedi’ Elrington, Foreign Affairs Minister

“The son, the member from Caribbean Shores, is vying for leadership.  He wants to become the next leader of the People’s United Party, so he is really vying for a job, just like the member from Lake-I.  They are all looking for a job, just like the poor member from Orange Walk, the leader of the party, because he had publicly said yes before, but they are all looking to keep their jobs or to get a job.  So they are saying no, but not with the level of conviction that I have, or the prime minister or the member from Fort George or Assad Shoman or Lisa Shoman or Godfrey Smith.  And the reason for that Madame Speaker, is very simple, because of our age and knowledge and wisdom, we all know that keeping your country safe and secure is much better, much more important than any job.  So really, we are looking to preserve our life, our country, our territorial integrity.”
