Donations continue for hurricane relief

Assistance in the wake of Hurricane Iris continues to arrive. Taiwanese Ambassador Charles Tsai presented a cheque for fifty thousand U.S. dollars today to the Government of Belize, while in Ladyville OAS Country Representative Kenrich Texel presented a container of supplies valued at twenty-five thousand U.S. dollars, courtesy of the Pan American Development Foundation. For its part, the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries announced that one hundred and fifty thousand dollars of government money has been allocated to assist fishermen of the south who have been affected by Iris. Some of the funds will be used to repair the ice factory at the Placencia fishing co-operative as well as make boat and engine repairs for co-op members.
