CITCO receives powerful server from Scotia

Story Picture
The Belize City Council is the recipient of some heavy computing power, courtesy of the Bank of Nova Scotia. The five year old piece of equipment, an IBM AS400 Server which the bank no longer needed, was handed over this morning to Belize City Mayor David Fonseca.

David Fonseca, Mayor

“It’s going to increase our efficiency, our data information, our quickness of reporting, record keeping will be there for us that we don’t have presently. Things like tickets that are out there, renewal of driver’s license and vehicle licenses will be at our fingertips on a daily basis, that it takes us a couple weeks to get on our desks at this time.”

“Do you have to train additional staff on how to use it?”

David Fonseca, Mayor

“Just the basic knowing the equipment will have to be done. The Bank of Nova Scotia expertise will do that for us with our M.I.S. managing team. And they are pretty much up and running with this type of system already, so it’s just a matter of getting the fine details from the Bank of Nova Scotia.”

Fonseca says the mega-computer server will act as the brain centre for City Hall, the Department of Transport and the Council’s Pound Yard office.
