Water recede slightly in Port Loyola
The sewerage contaminated water in Port Loyola has receded a bit, but the yards of residents remain flooded. On Friday, we were told that a team from the Ministry of Works would be clearing the sewerage lagoon outflow canal to allow the water to flow to the sea instead of the neighbourhood. While we understand that some
clearing work was done, according to chief engineer Cadet Henderson, after assessing the situation they have put forward a number of recommendations to permanently address the problem. Henderson would not offer details, but said that this afternoon a meeting with all parties would be held in Belmopan. Since September, residents of Jane Usher Boulevard, Curl Thompson Street, Louise Bevans Street and Faber’s Road have been surrounded by putrid water after canals in the area were blocked by the construction of dikes for the Belize City dredging project.
