Rumours of Gov’t resignations run wild

Story Picture
The political rumour mill is still in high gear tonight after a midday news flash indicated that there had been at least two high level resignations from government. Sources close to the governmental hierarchy tell News 5 that this morning, Minister of Natural Resources Johnny Briceño handed in a letter, resigning from his post as Deputy Prime Minister, to the P.M. However, News 5 understands that the letter was not accepted. This afternoon, when members of the press put the question to him, the P.M. went on record saying that no one has resigned.

“Is there any truth about Minister Briceño resigning as Deputy Prime Minister?”

Prime Minister Said Musa

“No. In fact the Deputy Prime Minister will be acting Prime Minister as of tomorrow when I leave the country.”

Reporter

“Has the subject been broached verbally?”

Prime Minister Said Musa

“Well you want to get in now into all discussions of government, I mean please. The answer is no to your question.”

Janelle Chanona

“We were receiving more or less confirmed reports that there has been serious talks about a resignation and so forth. But you are saying categorically across the board nobody is resigning?”

Prime Minister Said Musa

“Nobody is resigning.”

However, the Prime Minister did confirm that changes had been made in the portfolio of the Attorney General Godfrey Smith. It has been agreed that the press office and broadcasting portfolios will now both come under the authority of the office of the Prime Minister and that the Ministry of Information will soon cease to exist. News 5’s attempts to get a comment from Minister Briceño regarding his alleged resignation were unsuccessful. We can tell you that he will hold over as Prime Minister this week when the P.M. travels to London to lobby support for the victims of Hurricane Iris.
