Tuesday drug bust is a record
Tuesday morning’s drug bust in Belize City turns out to be a new Belizean record. The fifty-five bales of cocaine found in an apartment at mile three on the Northern Highway weighed in at three thousand, three hundred and seventy-eight pounds, over four hundred pounds more than the previous record set in March of 1997. Sources say the Police Department had been watching the apartment, rented by a single person, for some time, before moving in at around 4:00 a.m. In addition to the coke, police recovered radio equipment and a nine-millimetre pistol. The four foreigners and one Belizean, believed to be a local fisherman, should be charged shortly. They are being defended by lawyer B.Q. Pitts.
