Attempted Kidnapping of 4 girls from prominent families
News Five has confirmed that an attempted kidnapping occurred just before the start of the school day at one of Belize City’s prominent high schools. According to the Michelle Perdomo, wife of Minister Carlos Perdomo, their daughter was standing inside the school gate at Saint Catherine’s Academy waiting for a cousin when a blue van pulled up with a white car not far behind. The driver of the van asked the teenager if she was the daughter of the Perdomos who own Travelers Liquors because her mother had sent to pick her up. The girl replied that her mother did not work with Travelers but it perhaps was her cousin. The man then told her that she along with her cousin and two other girls, all daughters of the Perdomo family could get in his van and he would take them home. But the girl’s sixth sense kicked in and she alerted her principal, Salome Tillett of the suspicious fellow inside the van and Tillett called for Minister Perdomo. But he was in Cabinet meeting, so Michele took the call and asked the principal not to let the girls go with the stranger. News Five has confirmed that the girls were giving statements of the incident to the police late this evening. Police have some help in their investigation since the two vehicles were caught on nearby security cameras. A source to News Five says that if the kidnapper was not acting alone, he may have been in collusion with disgruntled Travelers employees who have been terminated. News Five will have more on this in our newscast on Wednesday.
