Football, basketball and cycling news from James Adderley

Story PictureGood evening, I’m James Adderley and this is Sports Monday. Round three of the Belize Premier Football League competition brought the internecine struggle between F.C. Belize and the Belize Defense Force to the M.C.C. Grounds yesterday. And let’s just give recognition to this B.D.F. fan from who has come to offer full support to his team-Flag and all. Now to the action on the pitch and it’s the F.C. Belize will the first real treat at goal when Deon McCauley mounts this individual effort that culminates in a right foot shot that inches outside the sticks.

The B.D.F. looks to get on the score-head first when Jerome Serano finds Jerome James who is ruled to be in an offside position by the referee. F.C. Belize comes back with Byron Usher beating his man to launch a right foot bomb that raise over the cross-bar. Harrison Tasher then gets this look at goal and releases a left foot that crashes into the side netting at the half we’re still scoreless. We’re some ten minutes into second half when Ian Gaynair is asked by F.C. Belize to make a crucial stop against the streaking Evan Mariano and he does good. F.C. continues to press and we must say while Woodrow West did come up with the save here, he didnt really know a whole lot about it. Talk about looking a gift horse in the mouth. Let’s just say Roberto Bernardez has no valid excuse not to have put F.C. on the score-board right here. In the meanwhile, this heel play from ShannonFlowers looks good but the response by goalkeeper West is better. At the other end, Kareem Haylock find Jerome James but the intervention by goalkeeper Elias Pelayo denies him the opportunity to score against his former team.

Folks we can only conclude Byron Usher is gun sly when for a second time in this ballgame, he has an open looked goal from point blank range and he simply can’t deliver. It’s getting late in the ballgame when careless defending gives Jerome James this opportunity but John Smith recovers in time to shut him down. As a matter of fact people, F.C Belize had more attempts at goals and more possession time than the military but neither team did enough to deserve the W in this scoreless stalemate.

In other results from round three, Suga Boys Juventus blanks San Pedro Dolphin 2-zip, Nizhee Corozal and the San Pedro Bullsharks battled to a 1-1, George Town Ibayani shook up Hankook Verdes 1-zip, Scorpion stung Tafari 4-zip, while Wagiya shot defending champion Illaguei 1-0.

Looking to round four, in the north zone of the B.P.F.L., Nizhee Corozal travels to the San Pedro Dolphins and on Wednesday and in the south, Hankook Verde plays host to the Llagulei on Thursday. Up North, F.C .Belize travels to Suga Boys Juventus while the B.D.F. will get a visit from the San Pedro Bullsharks, down south on Thursday, Wagiya takes on Tafari and the Carl Ramos and George Town Ibayani will face Scorpions at the Michael Ashcroft.

In cycling news, Leroy Cassasola won the sixty-four mile Cross Country Race for Cat four and five riders yesterday in two hours forty-six min sixteen seconds. Out Wilbert Jones and Preston Martinez in that order. Forty-two riders started and twenty-seven completed the course.

Turning to the basketball score, lets head to the Civic Center where Friday night, the police was matched up against the Belize City Council who came in with a record of one win, one loss. Very quickly, Orlando Bowen established himself as the go to man for the police when he goes bank for two. Of course, the City Council needs the win desperately and are off to a good start when Cadsden Ferguson finds Kenroy Usher who strikes for two of his game highly thirteen points.

Up by two in the early in the second quarter Randal Hinks comes up with the steel and find Virgil Miller who would hit eleven points and pull eight rebounds for the City Council. Still the police show a one point deficit, Clarke deals to big man Ian Galvez whose banker in traffic is good. Ronald Clarke then goes to the left hand on this press and it’s good. But its back to Miller time, Virgil wants three-Virgil gets three. The answer for the police comes in the person of Kuslin Hamilton, who dials from long distance. Nevertheless at the half, the police is up by seven points, people. In the third, Mervin Jaime gets this pass from Jason Augustine to strike for the easy deuce. At the other end, Isaac Pascual deals to Orlando Bowen who moves well without a ball and he gets the easy bucket. Bowen would post a two double of ten points, ten rebounds. The response by the City Council is fast and furious-Kenroy Usher tabs on two defenders to hit the shot and is fouled and converts to three points play, he would finish with the game high thirteen points.

Isaac Pascual then gets two needed points for the law. He gives his team a one point lead-he would record eight points. This throw up by Mervin Jones gives back the lead to the City Council but Chester Noralez comes up will the big three pointer for the Police for a 40-40 score at the end of three. In the fourth, the Police get blown out—Godsden Ferguson beats the law down court for two. This three point hit from Randal Hinks helps the City Council to pull away even more. Jason Augustine uses the feed from Hinks’s to add the Council’s tally- they go on to mash the Police-57-48 to show a two to one record, while the Police to one and one.

In the night cap count, two to one, Belize Telemedia tips off against one to one Belize Electricity Limited in a battle of corporate giants. And it’s Otis Clother getting the phone company off to a good start with the jumper inside the paint. When Kirk Sutherland deals to Devon Lozano, the Civic knows the three is automatic and the shooter who would register the game high of twenty-seven points does not disappoint. The light company finally gets some needed offence when Brandon Cadle goes to the rim for two points. Herschel Armstrong then spots up three and then gets it to fall but the B.E.L. is then by two at the end of one. In the second quarter, Lupito Acosta bounce pass to Devon Lozano, who launches to tre and its good. Otis Clother then gets the ball in his office and Clother knows what to do. At the half is down by eight.
Telemedia wouldn’t look back people and Marvin Bay Castillo had a break out game of sorts as he gets to the offensive here and the put back. They would finish with a two doubles of ten points thirteen rebounds. Bright spots for B.T.L. in this lost were Austin Castro who put twelve points and Brandon Cadle who also finishes with twelve points. However, tonight totally belongs to Telemedia who go on to post the 63-47 big W.

In other results from over the weekend in the Inter-Office Basketball league, S.S.B/B.W.T.U beats Youth for the Future 69-31. K.H.M.H. rolled over the post Office 52-41. Atlantic Bank crushed Grace Kennedy 101-50. The Police rebounded to beat Medical and Johnson 66-50 Alamilla’s Furniture hurt Home Protector 72-55. On tonight’s schedule inside the Civic Center, Youth for the Future Belize face Water Services, K.H.H.M hooks up the Police and the Belize City Council goes to work against the General Post Office.

Hey folks that’s our show for today. We invite you back, same time, same place next week. Jah over all. I’m James Adderley.
