Byron Lee performs for school kids
On September seventh, Belize District school children packed the City Centre. Today they were at it again…and so was News 5’s Jacqueline Woods.
The rally brought five thousand children to the Belize City Centre. And in addition to Byron Lee and the Dragonnaires, this year the sponsors, Angelus Press and Belize Tourist Board, included a variety of local acts, such as dance groups and singer Tony Wright.
Sherilee Rivero, Belize Tourist Board
“We have local artists. We have Tony Wright, we have Lennox Blades telling a story, and we also have the Young Artists Association. We also did a little thing with sports this year. Most kids are not participating, so in order to encourage them we had athletes from the track and field association. They came back with their medals, so this is their time to get recognised.”

“Why did you all decide to organise today’s activities in this manner and not just have Byron Lee and the Dragonnaires perform?”
Sherilee Rivero
“Byron Lee is very entertaining, but it’s time for us to take the opportunity to give acknowledgement to other organisations that have worked hard with our youths. And we have all of them here, five thousand as you can see, so this is the best opportunity to get a message across. When kids are having fun they learn a lot as well and we are taking that opportunity on.”
And when it was time for the band of the hour, Byron Lee and his group got everyone involved in the show. Reporting for News 5, Jacqueline Woods.
Over the weekend Byron Lee will perform in Belize City, San Pedro and San Ignacio.
