Ek Balam is the Regional Champion of Pok-Ta-Pok

And to another story of positive news…We have been following the progress of the Ek Balam team from northern Belize. The team, in a relatively short time, has been bringing home the medals from international competitions of the traditional Mayan ball game that requires fitness and stamina. This weekend, they again won gold becoming the 2019 Pok-Ta-Pok Champions.  The gruelling tournament took place for five days, ending on May fourth in El Salvador. Other teams from Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras and Panama competed and after advancing to the finals, the local team defeated Mexico ending the game at fifty-six to twenty-six points.  The team members who accomplished the feat are Didier Novelo, Franz Novelo, Luigi Gonzalez, Abner Sosa, Menalio Novelo Junior, Gian Torres, Angel Suchite, and Akil Hernandez. Coach is Menalio Novelo Senior, and team manager, Felicita Cantun.
