Financial Literacy to Make Social Changes
The Youth Innovation Challenge is being done in partnership with various stakeholders including Central Bank of Belize, the Credit Union League and community mentors who work along with the schools. PricewaterhouseCoopers provides the financial assistance for the winners as well as the logistical arrangements of the challenge. According to Education Minister Patrick Faber and Corrine Robinson-Fuller of the Belize Credit Union League, financial literacy helps to make social changes.
Corrine Robinson-Fuller, Executive Director, Belize Credit Union League
“When more of us are financially literate, more of us will have financial independence. A lot of us in here were born poor; we were born poor. There is nothing wrong in being poor. Financial literacy will transform you by helping you to move from poverty to financial independence and to be productive in whatever career you chose. And when we are productive, we are working to develop Belize.”
Patrick Faber, Minister of Education
“This is a wonderful for you to contribute to our education system; it is a wonderful way for you to contribute to Belize’s development and it is that you can do this while you are having fun and making some good rewards. First of all, you are learning how to use monies in a proper way and then you get some of that money especially if you are one of the winners and you also get exposed to some of the wonderful technology that exists in the world out there.”
