One of three escaped prisoners remain on the lam

Three prisoners managed to break out of the Central Prison early this afternoon. The trio is Christian Neal, Rafael Mencias and Wilser Echevarria. But freedom was short-lived for Mencias and Echeverria who were recaptured by prison authorities soon after their daring escape. Mencias was in for murder while Echevarria is one of the most known among the trio. He was serving a manslaughter sentence for the 2013 killing of sixty-four-year-old Panamanian diplomat Jose Rodrigo de la Rosa Stanford. In June 2018, Echevarria was found guilty of manslaughter though he had been charged with murder. He claimed that the diplomat had made sexual advances at him and that on resisting de la Rosa, he grabbed a knife in the vehicle and cut the older man on the throat. Neal, a resident of San Ignacio remains on the lam and was in prison for carnal knowledge. Police are asking the public to assist with any information by contacting the nearest police station or by calling 911.
