ComPol Chester Williams on Successful Policing on Referendum Day

Aside from the Wednesday night murder of Karl Lamb in Belize City, there was no violence during the referendum. It is a success for the police department and Commissioner of Police Chester Williams at Thursday’s press brief told the media that over eight hundred officers were deployed across the country as part of its strategy to keep the voters safe.

“I would like to say a big thank you to the men and women of the Belize Police Department who performed their duties with a high degree of professionalism and the commitment and dedication to duty. The way the officers performed yesterday led us to a peaceful election process. We did our best to ensure that those persons, who came out yesterday to cast their vote, did so peacefully. Our officers who were especially assigned to the different polling stations worked in conjunction with the elections officers and again that too went well. You would appreciate that separate and apart from the election duties, we had to ensure that we continue our ordinary policing and again, countrywide, except for the incident in Belize City on Lacroix Boulevard, I think that the police again did exceptionally well.”
