Dilpomat’s funeral planned for Monday

Among those anxiously waiting for transport to Belize is Margery Laing, wife of recently deceased ambassador Edward Laing. Laing, a resident of New York, died on Tuesday morning while snorkelling off Caye Caulker. The shutdown of the U.S. air transport system has prevented Mrs. Laing from reaching Belize and has thrown funeral plans into some confusion. Anticipating that she will be able to arrive in Belize over the weekend, the funeral has been scheduled for Monday afternoon at two-thirty at Wesley Methodist Church on Albert Street. The body will lie in state from one o’clock. The fifty-nine year old Laing, a member of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea, previously served his nation as Belize’s ambassador to the United States and United Nations.
