Saldivar Ramps Up Campaign for U.D.P. Leadership with the “Youth Brigade”
If you’ll recall last year, the race for the leadership of the U.D.P. was in full swing with hopefuls John Saldivar and Patrick Faber actively campaigning within the party. They were doing country-wide visits to garner support from the delegates, but all of that came to a screeching halt when Party Leader Dean Barrow announced that he was staying on and would not proceed with an early retirement. With a year or so before the general elections and with the referendum now concluded, the race has moved up front. Last Friday, John Saldivar put out a call for his party to embrace the competition for the leadership and he reconfirmed that he is still in the race for the leadership. On Monday night, Saldivar made another post on his public page – “Saldivar for Leader.” In that statement, he noted that it will be up to five hundred and eighty delegates from within the party to determine who will become the next leader of the U.D.P. He put out a call for young U.D.P.s to sign up to be a part of the “Saldivar for Leader Youth Brigade.” According to Saldivar, the youth will travel across the country over the next eight months or so to, “take the message of new hope, new vision, new leadership to delegates across the length and bread of our country.” He also noted that a strong focus on youth will be a hallmark of the government should he be the next leader.
