Bail for Stabbing Death of Ana Villanueva Incenses Corozaleños

Zena Armstrong

Twenty-year-old Zena Armstrong is out on bail after being charged with manslaughter.  The incident involved the fatal stabbing of Ana Villanueva in Corozal on Monday night.  The young ladies had a history of bad blood between them and that enmity turned deadly when a knife was drawn during an altercation.  Villanueva was stabbed once with a three-inch blade in the left side of her left chest, before bleeding to death.  The lesser charge of manslaughter, as well as Armstrong’s bail of eight thousand dollars, has incensed Villanueva’s family and friends.  This morning, ACP Joseph Myvett explained the matter to the media.

“In reference to the stabbing death of Ana Villanueva, police have since arrested and charged Zena Armstrong, twenty-years-old, for the crime of manslaughter.”

“Now sir, as you know, the family, the Villanueva family and her friends are extremely perturbed by this charge because the person who killed their loved one is out on bail for eight thousand dollars.  They feel that it’s not manslaughter, that it was a case of murder because she stabbed Ana Villanueva right in the heart.  Are there mitigating circumstances or extenuating circumstances that suggest that Zena Armstrong may have been acting in self-defense?”

ACP Joseph Myvett

“At this point in time, I am not going to go into those details other than to say that the evidence was gathered and that was forwarded to the D.P.P. for her to make a determination on a charge of manslaughter.”

Reporter

“Certainly though, you have heard the blowback or the “upsetness” about this manslaughter charge.”

ACP Joseph Myvett

“Yes I have, but if you do not have any supporting evidence to prefer a charge of murder then it is only the evidence that was submitted to the D.P.P. that caused her to make that determination.”
