Andrew Caliz is Arraigned for the Murder of His Common-Law Wife
A tour operator in southern Belize has been charged for the murder of his common-law wife on Tuesday morning. Forty-eight-year-old Andrew Caliz shot and killed Francisca Caceres Duarte inside their home in Big Falls, Toledo District. The couple was inside the bedroom when a single gunshot fatally injured the Honduran national. Caliz then rushed Caceres to the Punta Gorda Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival. He later told investigators that they were getting ready to travel to Belize City when the licensed nine millimeter pistol accidentally discharged, hitting Caceres in the right shoulder near her neck. Earlier today, Assistant Commissioner of Police Joseph Myvett informed the media that Caliz has since been arraigned and remanded on two charges, including murder.
ACP Joseph Myvett, Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch
“Reference the shooting death of Nohemi Caceres, police have since arrested and charge Andrew Caliz, forty-eight-years-old of Big Falls Village, Toledo District for the crime of murder and for the crime of possession of unlicensed ammunition, in that he does have a license for a nine millimeter pistol, but at the time he had four rounds of .380 ammunition in his magazine.”

“Now sir, the original account that was on the police report which is what he provided. I imagine that only two people were in the room, he said that they were heading to the city and he was simply putting his gun in his waist when it misfired or fire accidentally and it shot her in the neck.”
ACP Joseph Myvett
“Well, upon processing the scene the investigators observed that his account of what transpired did not support the processing of the scene.”

“Are you able to go into or discuss even superficially the inconsistencies between his account and what was physically there?”
ACP Joseph Myvett
“Well obviously that is as far as I will go other than to say that whatever was reported by him, the investigators and the Scenes of Crime investigators who went on the scene and processed the scene, obviously his account of what was said was not supported by evidence found on the scene.”
Reporter
“Has there been a history of abuse? Has there been any reports of domestic incidents with this couple or with Mr. Caliz in his previous relationships?”
ACP Joseph Myvett
“No. None that we know about. Or at least I had asked those same questions too that you are asking and none that we know about.”
