Ambassador Edward Laing dies in Belize
He lives in New York, but the tragedy which befell Belize’s former Ambassador to the United States and United Nations took place right here in Belize. Edward Laing, home on holiday, died this morning on the island of Caye Caulker. Reports are that the fifty-nine year old Laing was snorkelling when his tour guide noticed he had difficulty breathing. The guide administered CPR and brought him to the island’s clinic. The doctor tried to revive him, but it was too late and Laing was pronounced dead at 12:20 p.m. Laing served as professor of law at several American universities in addition to the University of the West Indies. In addition to tours of duty as Ambassador to Washington and the UN, he was also a serving judge on the United Nations Law of the Sea Tribunal. Edward Laing, dead at fifty-nine.
